NXT Worlds Collide 2022: One Brand Ends, Another Inherits the Gold

Carmelo Hayes and Ricochet open Worlds Collide with the easiest matchup on the card to understand. Ricochet represents the established high-flying standard NXT once showcased, while Hayes is the younger champion insisting that nobody from any version of the brand operates on his level. The match begins like an athletic argument.

Both wrestlers mirror and counter one another at a pace that would become self-indulgent if the execution were any less precise. Ricochet's speed forces Hayes to prove he can react rather than simply pose, while Hayes repeatedly turns defensive moments into sharp counters. The crowd recognizes almost immediately that the opener is operating above the rest of the card.

The match is strongest when neither man can claim a clean athletic advantage. Springboard attacks collide, kicks are answered immediately and every spectacular escape creates another opening rather than a pause for applause. Trick Williams remains a threat at ringside without becoming the entire story.

Hayes ultimately wins with a small package after another rapid exchange. The finish is intentionally simple after a match built around increasingly difficult offense, and that contrast works. Hayes beats a former NXT standout without needing a definitive knockout move.

The four-way tag-team unification match has a tremendous amount of story packed into fifteen minutes. The Creed Brothers, Pretty Deadly, Gallus and Brooks Jensen with Josh Briggs all arrive with existing grudges, managers and brand identities. The elimination format gives the traffic at least some structure.

The early eliminations are efficient but not especially satisfying. Gallus removes Jensen and Briggs first, then the Creeds eliminate Wolfgang with their version of the Doomsday Device. That leaves the match centered on the two teams NXT television has spent the most time developing.

The chaos outside eventually becomes more important than the legal wrestling. The eliminated teams continue fighting, the referee gets caught in the spillover and Damon Kemp reveals his betrayal by attacking Julius Creed. Pretty Deadly takes advantage rather than winning through superior team wrestling.

Elton Prince pins Julius and Pretty Deadly leaves with the unified championships. The result is surprising enough to feel consequential, and Kemp's turn immediately creates the next Diamond Mine feud. The match itself is more useful as a storyline junction than as a great four-team contest.

Mandy Rose enters the women's unification match with the most to prove because Meiko Satomura and Blair Davenport carry the stronger reputations as pure wrestlers. That imbalance becomes useful instead of embarrassing. Rose spends the match showing she can remain credible inside exchanges led by two far more experienced opponents.

Satomura gives the match authority whenever she enters. Her kicks and control work instantly raise the physical standard, while Davenport works aggressively enough to keep the triple threat from turning into two wrestlers waiting outside. Rose is forced to react rather than dictate.

The best stretches involve all three rather than one wrestler disappearing for long periods. Counters overlap, pin attempts are interrupted naturally and the match maintains a clear championship urgency. The audience's women's-wrestling chant reflects how well the middle section comes together.

Satomura appears to have Davenport beaten after Scorpio Rising, only for Rose to strike Satomura with the running knee and pin Davenport herself. The champion steals the decisive moment from the most dangerous wrestler without relying on Toxic Attraction. That makes the unification feel more legitimate than another interference escape.

Katana Chance and Kayden Carter against Doudrop and Nikki A.S.H. is the only match on the card without a unification component. That makes it feel smaller before the bell, and the ten-minute match never fully escapes the impression of a television title defense placed between larger historical matches. The contrast in team styles is still useful.

Doudrop's power gives the Raw challengers their clearest advantage. Chance and Carter have to create movement around her while Nikki supplies the more familiar pace for the champions. The match is competent whenever it stays focused on the four wrestlers.

Toxic Attraction eventually appears and pulls Nikki away from the apron. Doudrop is left alone for the champions' neckbreaker and 450-splash combination. The interference protects the main-roster challengers but gives the title defense an unnecessarily soft conclusion.

Chance and Carter retain and continue their run as a clearly established NXT team. The match does enough to reinforce their chemistry without creating a signature defense. It is the easiest portion of the show to shorten.

Bron Breakker and Tyler Bate close Worlds Collide carrying the most literal version of the event's theme. Breakker is the face of NXT 2.0, Bate is the first and final standard-bearer of NXT UK, and both championships are placed in the center without a heel required. The match is presented as a competition over which version of the future continues.

Bate's technical experience gives him the early advantage. He makes Breakker work through counters and positioning rather than simply overpowering another challenger, while Breakker's athleticism repeatedly turns normal heavyweight spots into something more explosive. Neither wrestler needs to compromise his established style.

The final third becomes the show's second major peak. Bate counters the airborne Breakker into a sit-down powerbomb, Breakker answers with the military press powerslam and both men survive enough signature offense to make the next exchange meaningful. The near falls escalate without becoming endless.

Bate tries one more rebound attack and Breakker intercepts him with the Spear. The finish is clean, decisive and followed by immediate respect, with Bate presenting the championships to the winner. NXT UK ends its event-level existence without turning the farewell into humiliation.
