NXT Heatwave 2025: Je'Von Evans Loses the Match and Wins the Evening

Heatwave opens with three wrestlers who understand that the easiest way to survive a triple threat is to keep somebody else on the floor. Parker supplies the power, Jordan supplies most of the aerial movement and Vice supplies the strikes. The structure is familiar, but the pace is high enough that familiarity does not become laziness.

Jordan is the most consistently spectacular performer in the match, especially on the corkscrew dive and the 450 attempt, while Parker repeatedly changes the geometry by simply running through people. Vice is positioned as the opportunist. Parker hits Hipnotic on Jordan, creates the opening and then gets caught by Vice's quick cover.

Cagematch currently rates the match 7.01 from more than 200 votes. Canton goes 3.25 stars, Bleacher Report gives it a B and Meltzer's reported rating is 2.75. WrestleFile lands at B- / 7.4. It is a strong opener with three credible winners, but the standard triple-threat rotations and opportunistic finish keep it from feeling like more than a very good setup match.

DarkState finally gets to turn menace into ownership. Dion Lennox and Osiris Griffin are the chosen pair, and the match is built around the group having more bodies than Hank and Tank can reasonably monitor.

The champions get the expected bursts of power and dives, but the match never develops enough clean back-and-forth to make the title feel truly endangered on sporting terms. Cutler James and Saquon Shugars keep tugging at the edges until interference creates the opening for the Doomsday Device and the championship change.

That result is useful. The wrestling is merely solid. Cagematch currently sits at 6.18, Canton gives it 2.75 stars, Meltzer's reported rating is three stars and Bleacher Report lands at C-plus. WrestleFile does the same at C+ / 6.8. DarkState needed the belts more than Hank and Tank needed another defense, but the match feels like the mechanism for the title change rather than a memorable tag-title performance.

The second triple threat in three matches arrives with a more complicated political map. Jayne is the NXT wrestler holding TNA's championship. Slamovich wants her belt back. Ash by Elegance has an entire entourage and the useful career story of becoming a more complete wrestler after leaving WWE.

The match is physical enough, especially when Jayne and Slamovich are working directly, but the ringside groups become nearly as important as the women in the ring. Fatal Influence gets ejected after Jazmyn Nyx is caught striking Ash. The Elegance Brand later pulls Jayne out before she can finish Slamovich, and Ash lands Rarefied Air to win the championship.

The title change is interesting; the route is cluttered. Cagematch currently rates the match 6.12, Canton gives it three stars, Meltzer's reported rating is 2.75 and Bleacher Report goes B-minus. WrestleFile lands at B- / 7.1 because the pace and physicality are good and the result matters, but the factions make the finish feel administered rather than earned.

This is where Heatwave begins to feel like an event rather than a collection of well-produced television matches. Monroe betrayed Grace weeks earlier, so Grace starts with the useful emotional advantage of having every reason to hit her immediately. Monroe spends the match surviving that anger and gradually redirecting it toward Grace's arm.

The work is crisp and increasingly nasty. Grace throws Monroe with the casual strength that makes ordinary power moves look unfair. Monroe attacks the arm, uses the steps and eventually removes the bottom turnbuckle pad. Grace appears close to winning after the middle-rope powerbomb, but Monroe targets the arm again, sends Grace into the exposed steel and finishes with the double-underhook DDT.

The finish protects Monroe's heel identity without making Grace look gullible. Cagematch currently sits at 7.84, Meltzer's reported rating is four stars, and both Canton and Cook go 3.5. WrestleFile lands at A- / 8.6. It is the strongest non-title match on the show and, more importantly, it gives the feud somewhere violent to go next.

The wrestling is not the story here. Massachusetts decides that Canadian heels Chelsea Green and Ethan Page are delightful, and from that point the match becomes an extended attempt to negotiate with the audience.

Page tries. He grabs a microphone and tells the fans that cheering for Canada will not earn them citizenship. They cheer him anyway. Green gets chants. The American Olympians get booed for wrestling like competent babyfaces. It is one of those moments where the crowd is not wrong or right; it has simply declined the assignment.

The action is adequate, with Steele's amateur sequences and Heights' explosiveness giving the younger team obvious upside. Alba Fyre's unseen superkick creates the finish for Green. Cagematch currently sits at 5.63, Canton and Meltzer both land around 2.5 stars, and Cook goes even colder. WrestleFile lands at C / 6.4. The character comedy makes it watchable, but the match is remembered primarily because the audience chooses a different script.

Femi and Evans have the advantage of looking like they should not be in the same weight class, which means the match already has a story before either man moves. Femi can stop Evans with one shoulder tackle. Evans needs combinations, angles and speed. Every time the challenger gets close, the champion's body becomes a veto.

The middle of the match is built around Evans refusing to let that physical reality end the discussion. He takes the gutbuster, spinebuster and chokeslam. He keeps finding cutters and kicks. He German-suplexes Femi and gets rewarded with a clothesline for the effort. The springboard exchanges become increasingly desperate rather than decorative.

Then NXT gives Evans the visual victory. The first referee is knocked out, a second official counts three after the top-rope cutter, and the original referee returns to point out Femi's foot under the bottom rope. The decision is correct. The heartbreak works because the crowd has already accepted the possibility.

Femi answers by throwing Evans over the top rope through the announce table with a landing that looks less like a wrestling spot than an eviction. Fall From Grace ends it shortly afterward.

Cagematch currently rates the match 8.74 from well over 300 votes, the highest matchguide number on the card. Meltzer's reported rating is 4.25, Bleacher Report gives it A-minus and Canton goes 3.75. WrestleFile lands at A / 9.3. The referee device is old, but the physical contrast, Evans' escalation and the table throw make the match feel like a near-breakthrough rather than a routine defense.
