NXT Battleground 2025: Trick Williams Leaves Tampa with TNA's World Title

Sol Ruca and Kelani Jordan open the night by treating the ropes like optional furniture. The athleticism is the point, and both women are good enough to make that point repeatedly without turning thirteen minutes into a gymnastics recital with a referee.

Jordan keeps pace with Ruca through the counters and aerial exchanges, while Zaria's presence at ringside adds just enough tension without swallowing the match. There are a few sequences where the speed gets ahead of the precision, but the misses are small and the recovery is immediate.

The finish is the image people remember: Ruca launches from the top rope and catches Jordan with a spectacular Super Sol Snatcher. It is exactly the sort of move that can become empty spectacle when the rest of the match has not earned it. Here, the preceding twelve minutes do the work.

The six-man tag is useful television placed on a premium card. That is not an insult, but it is the ceiling.

Hank Walker and Tank Ledger bring energy, Josh Briggs supplies the heavier offense, and The Culling are organized enough as heels to give the match a clean middle. The problem is that very little feels specific to Battleground. The match could have aired on Tuesday with one commercial break removed and nobody would have blinked.

The post-match return of Yoshiki Inamura gives the segment a better ending than the match itself. He clears the ring with a chair and restores his connection to Briggs, which at least sends the audience into the next match with a development rather than a shrug.

Tony D'Angelo and Stacks have the story that should produce the nastiest match on the card. Instead, they spend too much time wrestling around the violence implied by their breakup.

There are good ideas. Tony's hesitation after overwhelming Stacks fits the family dynamic, and Stacks exploiting that hesitation fits his betrayal. The match also has enough physicality to avoid feeling bloodless. But fifteen minutes exposes the gaps, and Luca Crusifino's ringside appearance arrives precisely when the match needs to stop pausing for story beats and start finishing one.

Stacks eventually uses the distraction, lands the low blow and wins. The result advances the angle. The route there is too mannered for a feud that has spent weeks promising something personal.

Stephanie Vaquer and Jordynne Grace are the first match on the card that makes Battleground feel genuinely important.

Grace's power forces Vaquer to solve problems instead of simply running through offense. Vaquer answers with speed, leg work and the kind of balance that lets her change direction before Grace can turn every exchange into a strength contest. The match builds cleanly from counters into bigger near-falls without losing its shape.

Grace's superplex into a jackhammer looks like the moment the title should change hands. Vaquer survives. Later, Grace tries to use the barricade and winds up going through it herself. That reversal gives Vaquer the opening for the SVB, another near-fall, and finally the Spiral Tap.

Nothing here needs an excuse. The crowd is invested, the championship feels valuable, and both wrestlers leave looking better.

Myles Borne enters as the challenger who is not supposed to be ready, which gives the match a simple problem: make the audience believe he belongs before Oba Femi reminds everyone why he is champion.

They get there. Borne sells the struggle well and earns increasingly serious openings as the match goes deeper. Oba, meanwhile, has to work rather than pose. The longer runtime helps Borne because every escape and comeback becomes evidence that this is not a ceremonial title defense.

The result is never especially mysterious, but mystery is not required. Oba eventually lands repeated Falls From Grace and retains. Borne loses while graduating from battle-royal surprise to credible upper-card prospect.

The main event is more important than it is excellent, and Battleground is smart enough to understand that the importance is the attraction.

Joe Hendry has the crowd before the bell. Trick Williams has heat before the bell. Their chemistry is built around personality and momentum rather than intricate wrestling, which keeps the match easy to follow even when neither man is producing the night's best sequences.

The closing stretch supplies the drama. Hendry hits Standing Ovation and Trick survives with a foot on the rope. Trick sends Hendry through the announce table, survives another comeback, then reaches for the TNA championship itself. The referee removes the belt, but the distraction creates the opening Trick needs: an eye rake, a flapjack onto the title and the final Trick Shot.
