NXT Arrival 2014: Zayn and Cesaro Steal the Show as Neville Wins the Title

Cesaro and Sami Zayn open Arrival with the match that immediately proves NXT can carry a major live special on wrestling quality alone. Their familiarity shapes every exchange, with Cesaro repeatedly countering Zayn's signature movement and targeting the left knee to slow the pace. Zayn survives uppercuts, escapes the Neutralizer and keeps creating increasingly desperate counters, including a sunset-flip powerbomb that nearly steals the match. Cesaro responds by throwing Zayn into a European uppercut, then adds a discus uppercut and finally the Neutralizer for the clean pin. The post-match embrace gives the rivalry a satisfying emotional endpoint without weakening Cesaro's victory. It remains one of the defining early NXT matches because it combines elite execution, layered callbacks and a crowd fully invested in Zayn's refusal to stay down.

Mojo Rawley and CJ Parker receive barely more than three minutes, so the match functions as a developmental showcase rather than a substantial special-event contest. Parker tries to slow Rawley's energy early, but the structure never creates meaningful suspense because Rawley is presented as the obvious momentum act. The crowd stays engaged enough with Rawley's offense, yet there is little room for either wrestler to establish a deeper control segment or a layered finishing stretch. Rawley strings together two Stinger Splashes, a hip attack and the Hyper Driver to score the clean pin. The decisive result fits his push and keeps the event moving after the long opener. Still, the bout feels much closer to weekly NXT television than the three major matches that define Arrival.

The Ascension defend the NXT Tag Team Championship against Too Cool in a nostalgia-driven match designed to contrast the champions' serious presentation with familiar veteran crowd favorites. Scotty 2 Hotty and Grand Master Sexay create brief bursts of energy, but the six-minute runtime keeps the match focused primarily on establishing Konnor and Viktor as the stronger team. The champions cut off the nostalgia spots whenever the veterans begin to build momentum and never appear in sustained danger of losing the titles. Near the finish, Viktor prevents Scotty from completing the Worm sequence. The Ascension then hit the Fall of Man and score the clean pin. The defense is competent and character-consistent, though the division's later TakeOver matches quickly surpass it in ambition and depth.

Paige and Emma give Arrival a championship match that sharply separates NXT's women's division from the shorter main-roster style of the period. Emma repeatedly works toward the Emma Lock and forces Paige to defend submissions rather than simply wait for a finishing move, while Paige answers with increasingly physical counters. A sitout powerbomb gives Emma a major near-fall, and she becomes the first wrestler to kick out of the Paige Turner, which immediately raises the stakes. Paige responds by abandoning the pinfall route and applying the Paige Tapout. Emma submits, allowing Paige to retain cleanly. The post-match embrace reinforces the competitive tone, and the match stands as an important early example of NXT presenting women's wrestling as a featured in-ring attraction.

Tyler Breeze and Xavier Woods never receive a real match because Alexander Rusev and Lana interrupt almost immediately, turning the scheduled contest into a thirty-five-second angle. Breeze and Woods have barely established the opening exchange before Rusev attacks both men and forces the referee to abandon the bout. Rusev drops Breeze with a Samoan drop and traps Woods in the Accolade, making the segment entirely about his destructive presence rather than either scheduled wrestler. The no contest is effective as a transition piece and keeps Rusev visible on NXT before his main-roster launch. As a reviewed match, however, there is almost no competitive material to reward. Its value comes from storyline positioning and pacing, not from wrestling substance.

Adrian Neville and Bo Dallas close Arrival with NXT's first ladder match and a clean championship change that gives the event a fitting final image. Dallas tries to use the ladder as a control tool rather than chase spectacular risks, while Neville's athleticism creates the more memorable visual sequences. The champion powerbombs Neville onto a ladder in the corner and repeatedly slows his climbs, but Neville keeps finding ways to turn movement into recovery. Late in the match, Neville kicks a ladder into Dallas' face, slams him onto another ladder and lands the Red Arrow onto the champion. That leaves Dallas down long enough for Neville to climb and retrieve the NXT Championship. The match is not a reckless ladder spectacle, but its storytelling and decisive title change make it an effective inaugural major-event main event.
